Replacement of Windows and Siding in North Austin Home

Before Replacement of Windows and Siding in North Austin

We are currently handling the replacement of windows and siding in North Austin at the home of the Millers. GreenTex was recently referred to the Millers in by one of our many satisfied customers across Central Texas. The family was looking for a reputable contractor to complete their window and siding project, and GreenTex is honored the family decided that we were the best fit for their project!

The house was built in the 1990s with builder grade, single pane aluminum windows and Masonite siding. The family reached out to GreenTex to see how to best seal up the house and improve the curb appeal. The old Masonite siding is rotting, peeling, and fading; allowing unwanted outside elements into the home and also providing a tasty snack for the neighborhood squirrels. The single pane, aluminum windows are unattractive and allow both radiant heat and infiltration into the house. Along with these issues, the house has settled over the years causing the seals around the upstairs windows to break and allow a constant flow of outside air into the home. The family invested in solar panels to power the home after moving in a few years back, and even with these solar panels the family is experiencing monthly energy bills well over $200! To figure out how to lower these energy bills, we must first understand why these builder grade products are causing these issues.

Masonite siding is a type of hard pressed board that was extremely popular among builders during the 80s and 90s due to its low cost, and we see it a LOT across Austin neighborhoods. Unfortunately, what most people don’t know is that Masonite siding is basically highly compressed and\d heated cardboard that forms a hard engineered wood. While the resulting material may seem hard and durable, it does not hold up to the test of time. The material is extremely prone to rot, fading, peeling, pest issues, moisture infiltration, and the list goes on. Masonite siding provides minimal protection to your home, and also means significantly higher homeowner’s insurance costs because it is so flammable.

Single pane, aluminum windows that are so common will devastate the energy bill of any home. The aluminum itself conducts heat very well and does not offer much insulation from the outside elements. This means that if it is hot or cold outside, the aluminum frame of the windows will be transferring the hot or cold temperatures into your home! On top of the issues caused by the thin aluminum frame, there is only one pane of glass with no coating or insulation to help insulate the home.

GreenTex will be replacing this outdated, non-functional Masonite siding with James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding. This innovative product will offer significant upgrades in every category compared to the old Masonite siding. Fiber cement is extremely durable and weather resistant, it will never rot, fade or peel, and it looks absolutely beautiful on any home!

GreenTex will also give the family a significant upgrade to their outdated and inefficient windows with a high quality, virgin vinyl window. The vinyl will never fade or warp, unlike the lower quality vinyl used in builder grade windows, and vinyl also performs fantastically with both heat conduction and insulation! Our signature glass package will give double strength, double pane glass with argon insulation and a double Low-E coating.
